چکیده
SHORT stumps have always presented fitting problems in both upperand lower-extremity amputation sites for the obvious reasons of small attachment area and a lack of useful range of motion. In an attempt to alleviate these problems for upper-extremity amputees, Drs. O. Hepp and G. G. Kuhn (1) of Minister, Germany, developed fitting techniques for the below-elbow and the above-elbow amputee, respectively, that provide a more intimate encapsulation of short stumps. For the below-elbow amputee, the general characteristics of this technique (Fig. 1) are:

A three-quarter type below-elbow socket for myoelectric prostheses.
The Muenster and Northwestern sockets have become universally prescribed for below-elbow amputees with myoelectric prostheses. The most attractive feature of these sockets is that they are self-suspending, thereby obviating the need for a harness. The sockets are designed to encompass the patient's whole elbow. Because of the intimate fit, heat build-up inside the socket is a problem. Patients ...

متن کاملO 7: KCNK2 Regulates the Nanoscale Formation of Immune Docking Structures on Brain Endothelial Cells Under Autoinflammatory Conditions
KCNK2 was previously shown to regulate immune-cell trafficking into the central nervous system (CNS). Kcnk2-/- mice demonstrated a more severe disease course in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, an animal model of multiple sclerosis, due to an increased immune-cell migration into the CNS. An upregulation of the cellular adhesion molecules ICAM1 and VCAM1 on brain endothelial cells in K...

Below knee amputation, which is noticed as one of the most common lower extremity amputations, is caused as a result of various factors like trauma, disease, or congenital limb deficiencies. In order to take these amputees back to daily life, below knee prostheses are used as an alternate to original limb. Comfort and patients’ satisfaction with prostheses are directly related to each prost...
متن کاملElbow dislocation with bicondylar humeral fracture in an adult: a unique type of injury
Simultaneous fracture of lateral condyle and medial epicondyle of humerus along with elbow dislocation is very rare injury in adults. Only a few cases have been reported in literature in pediatric age groups. The authors describe a case report of fracture of lateral condyle and medial epicondyle of humerus along with elbow dislocation in a young adult. The patient sustained injury in the form o...
